Paulette Thompson RSS
This year the focus is on allowing the students to find their own voice in a global 21st century world.  The journey will begin in the classroom extending into community and beyond. What this means for the educator of challenged students is stepping out of the way of the student to allow personal discovery and critical thinking to emerge. The student must be curious for this to happen and we must allow and encourage this natural process. For many parents this is a scary proposition because they have understood challenge as a need to support their child and this is true; however what it does not mean is doing for the student when they can learn to do for themselves. Empathy for the child with a challenge does not mean getting in the way of their learning. All students must find their own voice to participate and be successful in a global 21st century world.

The competition is an international one open to all abilities.  Reminding all educators, parents and students that a disability does not define who anyone is; we are much more and a person’s challenges are equalized with the right support. All people must be contributors this is the expectation for success. The student’s goals are the same productivity, contribution and supports equalize the playing field.  All students will rise to the occasion if given the opportunity because they do not want to be left out. It is the educator and parent responsibility to show the student what courage looks like to make this happen.

We as a team will focus on our learning styles to maximize the efforts we put forth. We will be doing project based learning because of its real world application. The students will be able to enjoy a moveable learning environment that is not stagnating i.e. indoors to outdoors. We will continue to work with community, our leaders, regular education students, specialized educational staff, non and for profit organizations who want to clearly form a symbiotic relationship with our students because they realize it benefits all of us. Our students are future change voters who can make a difference in what national and global economics looks like. This is a year of symbiotic relationships as our students find their own voice, their own way, emerging globally prepared, coming together with others who are committed to high expectations, who are courageous and determined to succeed.
