Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year at the Cicely L. Tyson Middle/High School. This year we will continue to embrace a global perspective to learning in our classroom, but with a real world hands on approach. We have answered the call for a global consciousness and now we ask ourselves how can we bring this perspective to our community. Technology has certainly helped us connect to a world beyond our community but how can we now apply what we have learned? What do we share in common with our global neighbors? We have engaged in the conversations and exchanged ideas. Now we ask ourselves to narrow the broadness of our scope to something that is doable, basic, and nurturing. This year we will examine the many aspects of gardening and all of its many related components. I will design lessons in math, science, social studies/world history, and English language arts to connect to this globally shared need. We will be growing food, and bringing it to the table. In the process we will learn what is healthy, that which allows us to feed our minds as well as bodies. How has food from different cultures transformed us as Americans uniting us, compelling us to understand each other's commonality in respectful ways.  This is vital for a healthy 21st century outlook we can use this idea to bring us together it is a talking point, a necessity and inclusive. Science, math, social studies, and language arts will help us get to where we need to go giving explanation to the real world experience of food production. The arts will enhance the journey making everything a bit finer and sweeter. Everything is inclusive working across content sharpening all of our skills in the process. Good citizenship is inclusive everyone can contribute if given the opportunity. Our village is on alert are we ready for this shared experience? Our children will be proficient and exceed our expectations if given the opportunity to grow.
